Grant, who was born in 1822 in Genesee County.

The Flint Generals are a professional ice hockey team that plays in the United Hockey League (UHL). The team is based in Flint, Michigan, and has been in existence since 1969. The Generals have won two Turner Cups (1972 and 1985) as well as one Colonial Cup (1984). The team is currently owned by Tim Kerr.
The Flint Generals began play in 1969 as a member of the International Hockey League, playing their home games at IMA Sports Arena. The team was originally known as the Michigan Stags, but after only one season they relocated to Baltimore and became the Clippers. In 1974, the franchise returned to Flint and was renamed the Genesee Valley Royals. Two years later, they once again changed their name, this time to the Flint Spirits.
In 1979, the Spirits joined the newly-formed United States Hockey League. During their first season in the USHL, they reached the playoffs but lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Sioux Falls Canaries. In 1982-83, led by future NHL players Bob Probert and Doug Gilmour, Flint had its best season to date finishing with 50 wins and 110 points; however, they were unable to win a playoff series.
After another disappointing playoff run in 1983-84, head coach Darryl Sutter resigned his position to take over as head coach of Chicago Blackhawks farm team -the Nova Scotia Voyageurs-. He was replaced by former Detroit Red Wings player Ronnie Nestor who guided Flint to their first ever championship -the 1984 Colonial Cup-. After defeating Muskegon Mohawks 4 games to 2 in best of seven series; Nestor’s squad went on sweep Kalamazoo Wings en route to winning cup. It would be 30 years until Flint would hoist another trophy -and 40 before winning a league title again-.
The following year saw assistant coach John Torchetti take over for Nestor who remained with organization as Director of Player Personnel; while veteran minor league defenceman Rick Dudley was brought in as General Manager. Despite having future NHLers like Steve Chiasson on blue line & Shawn Burr up front; club struggled mightily only managing 21 wins & 53 points -which still stands worst single season performance franchise history-. Off ice matters weren’t much better during 1986-87 campaign as financial problems forced sale of team midseason from Stuart Davidson owners group local businessman Phil Swartzell & partners who then moved them Warren Michigan renaming Centurions while also changing colours red white gold black instead traditional navy blue red silver white palette used previously since return 1974 under different monikers: Royals Spirits & Generals which it has retained ever since…….

The franchise was later sold and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where they became the Cleveland Crusaders. In 1975, the franchise returned to Flint as the Mohawk Valley Comets before moving to Muskegon, Michigan two years later and becoming the Muskegon Mohawks. In 1985, the franchise returned to Flint for good and adopted its current name.
